This section is where I write my thoughts on films I’ve seen, its basically like letterboxd except nobody reads it, and I’m paying $20 a month for hosting.
The Prestige
Thoughts: Very good overall, lots of impressive shots and effects, storytelling was engaging, and it felt complete by the end. This is one character Hugh Jackman’s not going to be playing til he’s 90. I think that it relied a little too much on metaphor and symbolism to tell its story, rather than actual events, and sometimes the foreshadowing was very on the nose, but the story kept me engaged, and the themes were very strong.
Overall grade based on enjoyment: 78/100
Who should watch it? Its a good movie for everyone, the storytelling is engaging, but never too hard to follow, you don’t need to be a fan of Victorian English settings enjoy it.
Book Disclaimer: I have not read the book, and am judging this film based on its own merits.
